At 4 PM in Redfield Auditorium, the festival along with Eight Cousins Books will present a reading and conversation with writer, actress, filmmaker and producer Christy Cashman. Ms. Cashman will read from her new, soon-to-be released, young adult novel, “The Truth About Horses.”

In this coming-of-age novel, 14-year-old Reese sees her family’s dream of winning the Black Elk race shattered when their beloved horse, Trusted Treasure, falls at the last jump. While still reeling from that loss, the family suffers a second tragedy, resulting in the sale of Trusted Treasure that damages irreparably Reese’s relationship with her father. Heartbroken, Reese searches everywhere to find Trusted Treasure in the hope she can bring him home and heal the rift with her father.

Then Reese meets Wes, a Lakota Indian, whose way of training horses is unlike anything she has ever seen. If anyone can win the Black Elk, it’s Wes, but he’s struggling with his troubled past. Reese must prove her worth, against all odds, if she wants to heal her family, help Wes and show them all that some dreams are worth fighting for.
